In response to the United Nations-sponsored Judicial Integrity Project (JIP) launched in 2000, designed to help public confidence in the country’s judicial system, Lagos State could be said to have taken a comfortable lead in setting an example in excellence. The JIP, which is a fixed , and an on-going process, is aimed at remedying the precarious situation in which the Nigerian judiciary , with special reference to the rule of law , has found itself. It is about ample and palpable integrity and an assuring capacity of the justice system in general and the judiciary in particular. One of the pilot states of the project , the others are Borno and Delta , it has, through its deepening reforms, sprang to a point where it’s now the cynosure of both municipal and international law and justice and development agencies. In some of the main departments of the JIP , access to justice, decongestion of the courts and the prisons, interaction with civil society, enhanced judicial training, case management, transparent case assignment system, reduction of court delays, transparency amongst agents of the Source : accessmylibrary.com |
