Litigation in the Courts remains an integral part of Singapore dispute resolution infrastructure. But Deputy Prime Minister and Law Minister S Jayakumar says in the past ten years, there has been substantial progress in terms of developing an infrastructure for alternative dispute resolution, or ADR. Speaking at a national forum on the subject, he noted that over the years, ADR has become increasingly important as a means of resolving disputes in the Asia-Pacific region. And the use and acceptance of ADR approaches has grown by strides in the Republic. Singapore has arbitration, mediation and other forms of ADR to resolve different disputes occurring at all levels of society. And these could range from social disputes dealt with at community level at the Community Mediation Centres and consumer disputes which are handled by the Consumers Association of Singapore.
